The Cabinet Office has issued a brief apology after it published home addresses of over 1,000 celebrities, gallantry award recipients, and other prominent personalities whose names were included in the New Year Honours 2020 list for their respective contributions and achievements.

The breach of home addresses of over 1,000 celebrities and personalities who names were included in the New Year Honours 2020 list occurred on Friday when the Cabinet Office published their names as well as their personal details on its official website.

The list was online until Saturday when the Cabinet Office took the list offline after realising the error committed by its officials. It said in a brief statement that the data breach incident has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

“A version of the New Year Honours 2020 list was published in error which contained recipients’ addresses. The information was removed as soon as possible. We apologise to all those affected and are looking into how this happened. We have reported the matter to the ICO and are contacting all those affected directly,” said a Cabinet Office spokesperson.

“In response to reports of a data breach involving the Cabinet Office and the NY Honours list, the ICO will be making enquiries,” said the ICO.
