Free: workshop for SMEs on reducing cyber crime

The London Digital Security Centre (LDSC) is hosting a free workshop  for SMEs aimed at helping them counter cyber crime.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday 5 July from 13.00 hrs to 16.00 hrs at 6 Mitre Passage, North Greenwich in London. The focus will be on the key areas of digital security that will help to protect small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) from cyber crime.

This event will be of enormous value if you are unsure of how to protect yourself from cyber crime. Businesses interested in attending should register at:

The free workshop will include lots of really practical information. There will be a briefing on the current criminal trends targeting businesses in the UK. And importantly guidance will be provided on the controls that SMEs can implement to protect them against criminal attacks.

And there is more. There will be a hands-on demonstration of DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance). DMARC is an email authentication, policy, and reporting protocol. Use it properly and you are a long way towards protecting your business from phishing attacks and CEO fraud. And the more organisations that adopt DMARC, the more effective it will become.

There will also be a demonstration on digital signatures and how these can be used safely in business.

Businesses are invited to bring a laptop so that they can engage with these two demonstrations for their organisation.

According to John Unsworth, Chief Executive for the LDSC, this is the first of many such events targeted at SMEs in London (and elsewhere) and aiming “to improve their digital posture and operate securely online”.

Given the recent Wannacry ransomware attack as well as the hack on Parliament’s email system, it is clear that all businesses need understand the importance of this work. And as membership of the LDSC is free, there really is little excuse for remaining ignorant of the threats and how to defend against them.
