Iranian hackers hit UK universities

Russian hackers spear-phishing European government organisations

A group of Iranian hackers tried to hack into the systems of 18 or more UK universities this year during a campaign lasting several months, successfully accessing at least one target. Some of the universities that the group focused on are on the NCSC-certified list including Warwick and Lancaster, although it is unclear if that was a main factor in the decision to attack them.

The hackers attempted to phish people with university log-ins. The victims were sent phishing emails in attempt to trick them into giving up their passwords.
